Not Too Old for Weight Loss Surgery – Gary’s Story

Gary was concerned he might be too old for weight loss surgery when he first met with Dr. David Provost two years ago. But, at age 74, Gary was still a good candidate for bariatric surgery. He underwent the Lap-Band procedure, with an adjustable gastric band inserted laproscopically to create a smaller stomach pouch. Now at age 76, Gary has not only maintained his weight loss, but also bikes 75-100 miles each week and recently took up scuba diving.

“I actually think that Dr. Provost saved my life,” says Gary. “Had I not had this surgery, I have no doubt that I would not have lasted very long.”

Following his Lap-Band surgery, Gary was able to discontinue all of his prescription medications, and he no longer needed to use a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. He says that he is very grateful that his age did not preclude him from bariatric surgery, and for the excellent support of Dr. Provost and his staff.
