Dr. Provost Participates in National Bariatric Conference

This week the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) hosted its annual spring conference. The ASMBS is the largest association of its kind in the world. Dr. Provost is known nationally as an expert in bariatric surgery, and was asked to participate as a leader in a variety of ways at this week’s ASMBS conference.

First, Dr. Provost presented at a meeting of the State Chapter Presidents. In addition to ASMBS being a national association, many states have their own chapters. This was a meeting of those state leaders, and Dr. Provost gave a talk on “MBSAQIP – Where We Are and Future Directions.” MBSAQIP stands for “Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. It is the program that evaluates surgical locations around the country and makes sure they are adhering to a high set of quality standards. The next day Dr. Provost presented to a larger group, again speaking about the MBSAQIP standards. He taught course participants about their role in preparing for the reviewers’ visits, and how to best be ready to show their quality adherence. He presents at meetings like this as part of his ongoing MBSAQIP roles: he is the co-chair of the Verification Subcommittee, and a member of the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Committee. We’re happy that Dr. Provost is part of the group of people that work on behalf of patients around the country to receive safe and effective bariatric treatment.

After those sessions, Dr. Provost was invited to participate in a popular video session where surgeon leaders teach their peers based on previous surgical experiences. He presented a video and talked about difficult gastric bypass cases. These conferences are an important part of a surgeon’s ongoing medical education. Dr. Provost teaches at these regularly, and is happy to be part of a continuing discovery process where he can collaborate with and learn from his peers. We are proud that Dr. Provost is recognized and regularly invited to be a presenter for ASMBS.
